Q:  Why choose a Pipe Dreams bike over a dealership bike? 

A:  Local dealerships really only offer bikes that are brand new or barely used. Their used bike selection will mostly consist of 1 to 3 year old bikes that are in the $6000-$8000 price range. Their bikes are usually stock, with no real modifications, such as custom L.E.D.s or undertail deletes. Their bikes are, for the most part, in great condition, but there is a price to pay for this. The average dealership bike will cost about $1000-$2000 more than Pipe Dreams bikes. 

 

Q:  Why should I choose a Pipe Dreams bike instead of the other Craigslist bikes? 

A:  We take a lot of pride in making our bikes turn key, ready to ride, and dealership quailty. We have been offered by dealerships to buy our turn key bikes for them to put into their used bike selection.  If you take a look at most bikes on Craigslist, you will quickly find out that they have not been taken care of very well. Most will have cracked, chipped, scuffed, or broken fairings. We have personally inspected a lot of the same bikes you will be looking at on Craigslist.  Most of them have been so poorly maintenanced that they are now in fact dangerous.

 

Here are just a few of the things we have encountered while looking at, or test riding them:

 

1. Chain and sprocket were just replaced by the owner of the bike. The chain was not cut to length correctly or was improperly tightened and fell off during the test ride.

2. The right hand handle bar was broken when it was dropped, then stuck a 10mm socket on the inside of it and Jb welded it. Needless to say, it fell off on the test ride, which could have caused an accident.

3. Rear axle bolt put in and not secured with any kind of nut. 

4. Fuel tank was NOT bolted down. They were using some zip ties instead of bolts. 

5. Wiring and electrical problems-most people just electrical tape the connections, which can cause the turn signals and brake lights not to function . 

6. Ignition was swapped out by the owner, leaving bare wires to be grounded out while riding the bike . 

7. Owner swears he "just changed the oil"  and completed other maintanince on the bike.  If only I would have remembered to take photos of the oil that came out of that bike....you would have seen the nastiest oil that has ever been in ANYTHING with an engine .

8. A nail driven through the real axle nut and bent over, instead of a cotter pin.

 

Those are just a few examples of bikes we have looked at on Craigslist. Unlike at Pipe Dreams, most bikes on Craigslist have absolutely NO receipts or paperwork showing any of the work or maintenance done to them. We take a lot of pride in making our bikes as close to "like new" condition as we possibly can.

 

Q:  Is a Pipe Dreams bike safer than the bikes on Craigslist?

A:  Yes. Not only are we the mechanics, but we also ride our bikes to ensure that they are safe and in proper working condition. When you purchase a Pipe Dreams bike, you will also receive all of the receipts (showing proof of new parts purchased) and paperwork (detailing all of the work).
